IndexNow is an open protocol that lets a website notify search engines (Bing, Yandex, and others) the moment new or updated URLs ship, instead of waiting for the next scheduled crawl. The website serves a key file at its root for ownership verification, then issues HTTP POST requests to the IndexNow endpoint with the URL list.
For wholesale platforms with frequently updated content (catalog changes, new blog posts, new use-case pages), IndexNow reduces the lag between publish and indexing from days or weeks down to hours. It complements rather than replaces the sitemap.xml file, which still serves as the comprehensive URL list.
